About

Note: Leo Vaughn is a pen name of writer and musician George T. Anderson.

Leo Vaughn loved fantasy from the very beginning. At age three or four, he would follow his mom around and tell tales of Chug and Plug, two steam locomotives who got into various shenanigans.

As a homeschooled kid, he devoured his phonics books and soon started writing his own stories on stacks of paper stapled down the middle. He largely focused on sentient toothbrushes and a fork named Wonderful who lived in a bowl of spaghetti. An ongoing series, coauthored with his cousin Lauren, divulged the poop-riddled escapades of a bad boy named Bobby.

Leo wrote nonstop as a child and adolescent, except for a two-year stint in high school spent developing a language called Old Beltugese. Other interests at the time included languages like Old English, Gothic, Sanskrit, and Proto-Indo-European—yet this period was not a diversion. An innate passion for grammar and the mechanics of language still undergirds his style.

As a young adult, Leo had no sense of direction for his life other than, You will write books. An English degree seemed related to writing, but the pull wasn’t strong enough. Ultimately, he got a bachelor’s in music composition, honed his piano skills, and spent a few years writing, recording, and touring with a post-rock band. All the while, he wrote novels and planned to seek publication when he was a little older.

As an adult, Leo has held all kinds of unrelated jobs (music teacher, captionist, B2B content strategist, and more). He has worked extensively with other writers to hone his craft, building relationships and trading critiques with people both in person and on the Absolute Write forum. A fan of writing conferences, he has benefited greatly from the New York Pitch Conference and the Pikes Peak Writers Conference.

After eight years of querying literary agents (and trunking one novel), Leo signed with Lucienne Diver of the Knight Agency. His work is now under consideration with major fantasy publishers in the US and UK.
